The book is the result of an in-depth project developed by young Yanomami researchers, inspired by the work of anthropologist Bruce Albert and botanist William : Instituto Socioambiental. Yanomami raises questions central to the field of anthropology—questions concerning the practice of fieldwork, the production of knowledge, and anthropology's intellectual and ethical vision of itself. Using the Yanomami controversy—one of anthropology's most famous and explosive imbroglios—as its starting point, this book draws readers into not only reflecting on but refashioning the 5/5(1).

The Yanomami tribe is a threatened population that needs protection provided by the governments of Brazil and Venezuela, otherwise they will disappear for good (Gibbons, , p). The original territory of the Yanomami people was 40% of Brazil’s state Roraima, but that percentage has decreased over decades (Gibbons, , p). Grade ?The Yanomami, hunters and gatherers living in the depths of the Amazon rain forest, are one of many groups threatened by the invasion of foreigners. Through magnificent full-color photographs and an eloquent text, this book shows their way of life from the points of view of Matuwe, a year-old boy, and Hiyomi, a 6-year-old girl/5(4).
